Elite Basketball Player

Lauren is a 14-year-old elite basketball player who started out playing on a boys’ team until an older girls’ team called her up. She’s learning that to reach her dreams of earning a NCAA scholarship and making the Canadian Olympic team, she’ll have to make many sacrifices on the journey to reaching her ultimate goal.

Lauren started playing basketball on a boys’ team because there were no opportunities to play with girls. Her love and talent for the sport were evident early on. She made Halton’s top 10 for basketball in 2012 and Ontario’s top 20. In 2013, her team became Division 1 Provincial Champions, and it won a repeat title in 2014 with Lauren as captain. She was named a 2014 Nike U.S. Junior Nationals Canadian Pool All Star Player, and she earned a spot in the Centralized Elite Player Development Program. She also attended an invitation to go to an Elite Player Camp in Niagara, where she won the Best Post Player Award. In February 2015, Lauren was named to the Team Ontario U15 team. Congratulations, Lauren!

Lauren also plays volleyball and does track and field at school. She graduated from middle school with honours and Science/Math Highest Academic Award. She was also named Grade 8 Athlete of the Year. She is currently attending high school at Bishop Reding in Milton. Lauren’s lifetime goals include playing basketball for Team Canada and earning a NCAA Basketball Scholarship in the US. She plans to pursue a degree in Business or Science followed by Law School in Canada. Her dream is to become a Lawyer and to coach/mentor young female basketball players.
