Karsten is a professional triathlete racing in XTERRA races around the world. He’s been involved in the sport since age four, when his parents entered him in his first Kids of Steel race; he competed against boys aged six to nine, the youngest available category. After that experience, he fell in love with the sport and continued to race as a junior elite. By age 16, he could ride with some of the top pro triathletes.

Five years ago, Karsten turned pro, and since then he has been constantly riding one of the fastest bike splits in his races, paired with a strong swim and backed up by a killer run. Karsten’s main focus is off-road triathlon. He has been the runner-up at the Canadian ITU Cross National Championships for the past two years, and in 2014 he missed winning by a mere 17 seconds.

Only 23, Karsten has many more triathlons ahead of him. In 2015, he’ll compete in all the XTERRA USA point events, including races in Nevada, Alabama, Virginia, and Colorado, and the XTERRA USA Championship in Utah. Additionally, Karsten will race in a few XTERRA World Tour events. When the trails aren’t calling, he will also return to International Triathlon Union drafting triathlons in 2015.

Karsten outside of racing

Karsten got married this past summer and now lives in Guelph, Ontario. When Karsten is not racing or training you can usually find him in a rink playing hockey or skateboarding. If you would like to connect with Karsten you can find him over all social media.
